Do DUI Laws Discriminate Against Women?
LONG BEACH, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ — Los Angeles DUI lawyer Lawrence Taylor claims that the current DUI laws discriminate against women. Taylor, nationally-known author of the book Drunk Driving Defense, cites researchers at the University School of Medicine in Trieste, Italy, who found that women have less alcohol dehydrogenase than men. With less of the enzyme that breaks down alcohol in the stomach, women reach the same blood alcohol concentration as men after drinking only half as much.

Campaign to fight DUI offers ‘jail call’
If the thought of being seriously injured or killed doesn’t deter some people from drinking and driving, then law enforcers hope making a call to your mother will.
Since Aug. 21, the Utah Highway Patrol has been involved in its annual Labor Day holiday-weekend enforcement effort. Part of that campaign includes cracking down on drunken drivers.
To drive that message home, the UHP and some local bars are teaming up for their “one call” campaign.

546 DUI Arrests In 10 Days As Labor Day Crackdown Begins
Our Chicago DUI Attorneys have previously warned of the increase in drunk driving patrols in Illinois as Labor Day approaches. We hope, however, the Illinois arrest rate is nothing like Arizona’s reported numbers from this past weekend.
Police make 546 DUI arrests in 10 days
PHOENIX – Phoenix police have been blanketing the entire state looking for drunk drivers the past few weeks in a Labor Day crackdown. The campaign called “Over the Limit, Under Arrest,” started Friday, Aug. 21 and will end Monday, Sep. 7.
In the first ten days of the enforcement campaign, police say they have made 546 DUI arrests. 54 of those DUI arrests were aggravated, 492 were misdemeanor and 191 were extreme (.15 blood alcohol content or above).

2nd DUI For Ice Cream Truck Driver
If you live in or around Valley Center, Kansas, the sound of the ice cream truck in the summer might also be followed by the sound of police sirens. Our Chicago DUI Lawyers have learned of a report of out of Kansas indicates that a 42-year-old was arrested in February after a police officer saw Martindale hit a curb in front of Wheatland Elementary School and then swerve into another lane.
Ice Cream Truck Driver Sentenced For DUI

A Valley Center ice cream truck driver will spend time in jail for working under the influence.
Robert Martindale plead no contest Wednesday night to DUI and refusing a breathalyzer. The municipal judge dismissed the wreckless driving charge and then sentenced Martindale to two days in jail and three days of house arrest. Martindale will also have to pay a $1,000 fine.
DUI Arrest For Rapper Too Short
In what seems to be an all too common theme, another celebrity has been arrested and charged with DUI. Rapper Too Short was arrested for the 2nd time in 3 months for suspicion of drunk driving.
Cops Blow the Whistle on Too Short for DUI
Cops say rapper Too Short was too far over the legal limit to be driving around Las Vegas this morning.
According to law enforcement, Short — real name Todd Shaw — was arrested for DUI, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, speeding and exhibition of power (burning rubber) by Las Vegas Metro Police at around 4:00 AM.
It’s the second time Short’s been popped for DUI — in Las Vegas — in the last three months.
DUI Suspect Chased Accross State Lines By 83 Year Old Driver
Interesting DUI story out of New York as a man apparently chased a suspected drunk driver into Connecticut until police could apprehend the suspect
Driver, 83, Chases DUI Suspect Across 2 States to Help Police Catch Him
SOUTHEAST, N.Y. — An 83-year-old driver chased a pickup truck for 15 miles from New York into Connecticut, helping police catch the drunken driving suspect who had rear-ended his car.
The incident last weekend started on Interstate 684 in Southeast, N.Y.
Frank Canale of Scarsdale, N.Y., pursued the man all the way to his driveway in Danbury, Conn., and stayed there until police arrived. He says he feared the man could kill someone.

DUI Arrest For Former Kentucky Basketball Coach
Our Illinois Drunk Driving Defense Lawyers have learned that former Kentucky men’s basketball coach Billy Gillespie. This latest stop marks the 3rd time Gillespie has been stopped for suspicion of DUI.
LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (AP) — Former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie was arraigned on a drunken driving charge Thursday after refusing sobriety tests during an early morning traffic stop in which officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath.
Police say they arrested Gillespie at 2:47 a.m. along a highway in Lawrenceburg about 30 miles from Lexington, where Gillispie coached the Wildcats until he was fired in March. Charles F. O’Connor, a passenger in the car, also was arrested on a charge of alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Murder Charges Filed In DUI Case
Our Chicago DUI Attorneys have learned that the Kane County State’s Attorney has filed murder charges against a an Aurora man after that man allegedly drove up on a sidewalk, killing a Batavia man and his dog.
August 25, 2009 (ST. CHARLES, Ill.) — Kane County State’s Attorney John Barsanti says he hopes the unusual move of filing murder charges in the case of a man accused of striking and killing a Batavia man and his dog will serve as a deterrent for drunken driving.
A grand jury handed down a 37-count indictment against 24-year-old Edward O. Cook of Aurora last week, including 11 counts of first-degree murder.

ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECK IN THE AUSTIN (015th) DISTRICT
The Chicago Police Department will conduct a Roadside Safety Check in the Austin 015th District at 5540 West Madison. The Roadside Safety Check will commence at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009 and end at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009.
During roadside checks, police officers slow down traffic, stop cars at regular intervals and watch for drivers who show signs of alcohol impairment and other violations as noted below.
