Chicago Cop Receives Probation For DUI Accident

September 10, 2009 (WLS) — A Chicago police officer charged in connection with a deadly drunk driving crash received probation and has his driver’s license suspended for three years.

Prosecutors said Christopher Berlanga’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he collided with a car that was also driven by someone who was drunk.

The crash happened at a Highland, Indiana intersection in January of 2006.

Kristina Hilltoonen of Gary pleaded guilty to drunk driving charges last year. A passenger in her car died in the crash.
