Local DUI News: Alderman Dixon Refuses To Testify At DUI Hearing
Our Chicago DUI Attorneys have learned that Alderman Sharon Dixon has refused to testify at the hearing to determine whether her license should remain suspended for her refusal to take a Breathalyzer after her arrest for suspicion of DUI. Our DUI Attorneys previously examined Alderman Dixon’s arrest for DUI a few weeks back. (Recent High-Profile Arrests Highlight DUI Crackdown – Chicago DUI Lawyers Examine.)
Dixon’s lawyer filed a Petition to Rescind a Summary Suspension which allows a driver accused of DUI to challenge the suspension of his license. The hearing on the Petition to Rescind, however, is a civil hearing, not a criminal hearing. Therefore it is not necessarily clear whether Dixon will have the right to refuse to testify.

Chicago alderman accused of DUI refuses to testify
March 10, 2009
Six weeks after her drunken driving arrest on the Far North Side, Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) refused to testify in court Monday at a Daley Center hearing where she sought to regain her driver’s license.
Dixon, whose license was automatically suspended Jan. 21 when she declined to take a Breathalyzer test, was in court Monday attempting to overturn the suspension and briefly took the stand. Her attorney argued Dixon was improperly arrested.
“I decline to testify on the advice of my attorney,” Dixon replied when a prosecutor asked if Jan. 20 was Inauguration Day.
A hearing on whether Dixon must testify is scheduled for April 16.
