About 6:15 p.m., a vehicle crashed into a viaduct near East 83rd Street and South Jeffery Boulevard, according to a law enforcement source.
The woman driving the car was allegedly reaching down for a bottle of alcohol that had fallen to the floor when she smashed into the viaduct, police said.
The woman’s 9-year-old daughter, a passenger in the vehicle, was injured in the crash when the child’s head apparently went through the windshield.
The child was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said the hospitalized person was in serious-to-critical condition.
Police on Sunday said both the mother and her child were both in “stable” condition at Christ.
