A Chicago man was charged this morning with drunk driving after a crash Monday night on the Dan Ryan Expressway that left another motorist dead, according to Illinois State Police.
Tommie Taylor, 24, was already driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI conviction. Taylor, of the 3600 block of South Lake Park Avenue, was charged this morning with a count of aggravated DUI and was cited with driving without a valid license and driving without insurance, said State Police Master Sgt. Michelle Tufenkjian.
Two vehicles were traveling north on the expressway (Interstate Highway 90/94) at 79th Street about 10:40 p.m. when the Cadillac sedan Taylor was driving went out of control and sideswiped the other motorist’s Ford Crown Victoria.
The Ford veered into a barrier wall, partially ejecting its driver, Tufenkjian said. Taylor’s car came to rest in the far right lane.
The other motorist, Justin Hopkins, 30, of the 800 block of West 68th Street, was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. at Stroger Hospital, said a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Taylor was not hurt in the crash, state police said. Tufenkjian did not know his blood-alcohol level.
Early Friday morning, a 71-year-old Matteson man also was killed in a DUI-related chain-reaction crash in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan at 79th Street.
