DUI Defendant Shows Up To Court Drunk
Our Illinois DUI Lawyers have seen some strange things happen in Court, but the following story tops them all.
‘Intoxicated’ man shows up at court for DUI charge
Not the best of ideas: A man due in court on a drunken-driving charge showed up this morning so intoxicated he urinated on himself.
Seth A. Chuck, 37, of Allentown was taken out of a Northampton County courtroom by three sheriff’s deputies, then brought back by one unhappy judge for a reckoning.
“Mr. Chuck comes in here today as intoxicated as anyone I’ve ever seen,” said Judge Paula Roscioli.
“That’s correct,” said Chuck, whose head rolled back and forth and who had trouble focusing his eyes.
He was hushed by a deputy who held him by the arm.
Chuck, who wore cargo shorts and a blue shirt, was due in court to sign paperwork after being accepted into a first-offenders program on a September 2008 drunken-driving charge from Bethlehem.
Roscioli ordered him removed from the program and sent him to prison under $1,000 bail. She also asked sheriff’s deputies to file charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Roscioli said Chuck was belligerent to deputies after he got removed from the courtroom. That was also when he urinated on himself, she said.
“My dear,” Chuck told Roscioli to explain his behavior. “I have a disposition, a mental disposition, and my remedy with it is alcohol.”
After that, Roscioli ordered a drug and alcohol evaluation, and made it a condition of any bail for Chuck.
