Family lays groundwork for a lawsuit

The father of a 13-year-old boy allegedly killed by a drunken off-duty Chicago police officer took the first step Thursday toward a lawsuit by seeking evidence about the officer’s car.

Officer Richard Bolling is alleged to have fled after his Dodge Charger hit Trenton Booker as he rode his bike on South Ashland Avenue early on May 22.

Bolling, 39, was charged with reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a wreck where a death or injury occurred. His blood-alcohol level was measured at barely under the state’s legal limit of 0.08, but he wasn’t tested by police until four hours after the crash, prosecutors said last week.

Bolling was released on a reduced $1 million bond Wednesday, a day after Trenton’s funeral.

“We’re just waiting on the day for him to see his day in prison,” Trenton’s father, Terrence, said Thursday of Bolling. “He can smile now ’cause he’s going to cry later.”
