Chicago DUI Lawyers Warn: Hosts Of Party Can Be Liable For DUI Of Guests
Two stories about DUI accidents recently came to the attention of our Chicago DUI Attorneys. Both of these stories illustrate a growing trend in the law. Even if you are not driving drunk, you can be liable, both civilly and criminally, for DUIs if you hosted the party or provided liquor for the party that results in the DUI crash.
Here are the details:
This first involves a mother in Lake Forest whose teenage daughters hosted a drinking party in their mother’s home. After the party, one of the guests, driving under the influence, crashed his car, paralyzing his passenger. The mother’s homeowners insurance will pay $2.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by the young man who was paralyzed. Here’s the link to the full story as reported by the Chicago Tribune: Young man paralyzed in crash after underage drinking party settles lawsuit against Lake Forest homeowner
The second story is similar. A man and a woman from Montegomery County, Maryland, have been charged with misdemeanor crimes for allegedly serving alcohol at an underage drinking party that an 18-year-old Montgomery County man left before dying in a fiery DUI crash late last year. The Allentown Morning Call has the complete story here: Two accused of serving drinks before crash.

If you or your friend has had too much too drink, we urge you to be responsible and call a cab, friend, or family member to get home safely.
