Murder Charges Filed In DUI Case
Our Chicago DUI Attorneys have learned that the Kane County State’s Attorney has filed murder charges against a an Aurora man after that man allegedly drove up on a sidewalk, killing a Batavia man and his dog.
August 25, 2009 (ST. CHARLES, Ill.) — Kane County State’s Attorney John Barsanti says he hopes the unusual move of filing murder charges in the case of a man accused of striking and killing a Batavia man and his dog will serve as a deterrent for drunken driving.
A grand jury handed down a 37-count indictment against 24-year-old Edward O. Cook of Aurora last week, including 11 counts of first-degree murder.
Cook is accused of driving onto a sidewalk July 29, striking and killing 57-year-old David Long and his dog, Shadow.
Barsanti says unique circumstances in the case led prosecutors decided to present murder charges to the grand jury. Cook also was indicted on aggravated DUI, burglary and unlawful possession of a converted motor vehicle.
